Arist's survey feature lets you collect information from your learners and automatically take action based on their responses — like updating their language preference or enrolling them in a course.

This guide walks you through creating a survey, adding questions, and setting up automations.

Step 1: Create a New Survey

Navigate to the Courses page and click Create New, then select Survey.

Give your survey a name. For example, "Language Survey."

Step 2: Add a Welcome Message and Image

You can personalize your survey by adding:

  • An image or GIF to display at the top of the survey

  • A welcome message to introduce the survey to learners

Step 3: Add Questions

Arist supports three question types:

  • Multiple Choice — Learners select from predefined options

  • Open Ended — Learners type a free-text response

  • Custom Rating — Learners respond on a rating scale

Step 4: Set Up Automations

After adding your questions, click Continue to reach the Automations page. Automations use logic branching to trigger actions based on learner responses to multiple choice questions.

Creating an Automation

  1. Click Logic > Create New.

  2. Select the multiple choice question you want to branch from (e.g., "What is your preferred language?").

  3. Choose an action. Available actions include:

    • Enroll the user in a course

    • Update the user's time zone

    • Update their preferred delivery method

    • Update their language

  4. Map each response to the appropriate action. For example:

    • English → Update language to English

    • Spanish → Update language to Spanish

    • Hindi → Update language to Hindi

    • French → Update language to French

  5. Flip the "disabled toggle" to turn the automation on.

  6. Click "Save"

Tip: You can use automations to enroll learners in specific translated versions of a course based on the language they select.

Step 5: Schedule and Send

Once your survey is complete, schedule it and send it out to your learners. When learners submit their responses, any automations you've configured will run automatically — no manual work required. Surveys are able to be sent out on an Instant Schedule with Required Responses. Response Reminders are optional. To learn more about schedules, read this article: Delivery.
