Before you start: Watch this overview video
Before reading this guide, watch this short overview video of the Arist experience in Microsoft Teams. This video is designed for Microsoft Teams/IT admins and will help you understand how the apps work together and why you're taking these integration steps.
About Arist for Teams
Arist for Microsoft Teams consists of two apps that work together to deliver the best learning experience:
Arist (main app) - The core learning application where users access courses and content
Arist Comms app - Delivers notifications directly through Teams chat via a dedicated chatbot
Note on naming: The main Arist app is currently on its third version, which is why you may see it referred to as "Arist V3" in documentation or communications. The Comms app is always called "Arist Comms."
Why both apps? Without the Comms app, notifications only appear in the Teams Activity tab, which users may miss. The Comms app ensures learners see and engage with their Arist notifications through direct chat messages, significantly boosting engagement.
The current recommended setup includes both apps. If you're setting up Arist for the first time or migrating from an older version, you should install both apps together.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Prepare White-Label Customizations First
Before scheduling any installation calls or beginning technical setup, please prepare your white-label customization materials:
Prepare Teams white-label customizations with official Microsoft specifications
If you already have white-label customizations for your Arist main (v3) app, you'll still need to prepare separate white-label materials for the Arist Comms app. Having these materials ready in advance will ensure a smooth installation process and avoid delays during setup calls.
Link your Teams Tenant to Arist - MUST BE COMPLETED FIRST
(optional) Create and manage an appropriate Microsoft group for Teams app (only necessary if you are not doing a tenant-wide integration. Arist's recommendation is to skip this step and do a tenant-wide integration.)
Enable Arist app in Teams (does not pre-install for end users)
(optional) White-label the Arist App in Teams (using materials prepared above)
(conditional) If your organization was previously using the old Arist app, follow the instructions in this article to disable it: Disabling the Arist (Legacy) App
⏱️ Important Timing Note
App Setup Policy changes can take time to propagate:
1-2 days for policy changes to reach all tenant members
Another 1-2 days for the app installation itself to complete
This timing applies to all setup paths. Plan accordingly and allow sufficient time for changes to take effect across your organization.
